Taco Bell gets Sued – Where’s the Beef?

The word has spread across the internet: An Alabama law firm has filed a class action lawsuit against Taco Bell in California, saying its meat fails to meet the definition of beef set forth by the U.S. government. The lawsuit claims Taco Bell’s meat cannot be honestly advertised as “beef” because it claims tests showed the meat was only 35% beef, not the 70% beef required by federal standards.

“It’s mainly soy and oats and there’s lots of other stuff in there that I don’t even know how to pronounce,” said attorney Dee Miles.

I believe they, the lawyers, have missed an important point. I understand they are comparing “beef” to soy, oats or whatever, but first you need to define meat VS beef.

It is my understanding that a large part of Taco Bell’s meat is not really meat. When meat is removed from the bone, there is always a little bit of meat left behind attached to the tendons which are attached to the bone. To remove the meat and tendon, a chemical is put on the bone that releases everything. The combination of meat and tendon is then cooked and ground up (not necessarily in that order) and then declared meat.

According to the lawsuit, this product – meat/tendon/beef – is then processed as reported below.

Taco Bell’s tacos, burritos and other Mexican menu items advertised with beef actually contain a filling of mostly non-meat substances like “isolated oat product,” according to the lawsuit filed last week in a California federal court.

“The ‘chicken’ and ‘carne asada steak’ served by Taco Bell is, in fact, chicken or carne asada steak,” the lawsuit says. “The ‘seasoned beef,’ however, is not beef.”

Taco Bell simmers 100 percent U.S. Department of Agriculture-inspected beef in a “proprietary blend of seasonings and spices” to give it a signature taste and texture, Taco Bell President Greg Creed said in a statement.

All seasoning ingredients are listed on the website, he said.

“Unfortunately, the lawyers in this case elected to sue first and ask questions later — and got their ‘facts’ absolutely wrong,” Creed said.

Unfortunately, the lawyers/law suit did not identify ingredients in the “proprietary blend”. We can only guess at some of these, but I am pretty sure of the following as it comes from their website.

• Autolyzed Yeast Extract (which contains MSG, an excitotoxin)This makes poor quality “food” taste better – tricks your taste buds
• Red #40, Blue #1, Yellow #6 artificial colors
Where do these come from?  coal tar derivatives (same as “Sweet and Low”)

• Corn syrup solidsHigh Fructose Corn Syrup – a poison in its own right (25% has mercury in it) and it comes from GMO corn that is toxic.
• Partially Hydrogenated Corn Oil
There is not anything healthy about this. All hydrogenated vegetable oils become trans fatty acids and still bad because of GMO corn.
• Soy Protein
There is only one thing unhealthier than corn oil and that is anything to do with soy. Soy is 95 % GMO. I forgot to mention that  GMO’s were designed to use more herbicides than other plants; also, don’t forget the pesticides and chemical fertilizers
• Propylene Glycol Alginate
There is nothing like a product in your food similar to antifreeze

 • Dimethylpolysiloxane (an anti-foaming chemical)  a favorite of Tyson chicken, beef and pork. McDonalds probably uses the most of this product in the world for its chicken McNuggets

Taco Bell responded quickly, saying their meat was “88% beef” and that they buy the same brand of beef sold in supermarkets — Tyson Foods.

The truth be known, almost no one has “meat” any more toxic and unhealthy than Tyson.

This a quote from Mike Adams the “Health Ranger”

Suddenly we care about food quality at Taco Bell?

But seriously, the bigger issue here isn’t Taco Bell’s meat ingredients as much as it is Americans’ dietary complacency: If you eat at Taco Bell, you don’t CARE what you’re eating. Why should it matter if it’s meat, or soy, or even recycled rat turds? The very fact that somebody is eating at Taco Bell already establishes they’re not very interested in the purity, origins and nutritional potency of the foods they consume.

This is the same scenario if you are eating food bought at a regular grocery store and purchasing processed foods.

Sometimes you are out and you just can’t eat healthy food. So what can you do? The key here is to minimize the risk of chemicals and toxins.

The first thing to do is avoid Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut (all owned by the same corporation), Mc Donald’s and similar food dispensers. The chicken and meat in all of these stores are pumped up with MSG, HFCS, salt and water as a minimum. Since it is impossible to avoid all of these products, you need to minimize. Most fast-food places super-size everything, which makes being healthy harder; look for salads and limit yourself to small portions of foods. On eating salads, try to get olive oil and some type of vinegar. If you are near a Chick-Fil-A, you can get 4 nuggets (these are also not reconstituted) to reduce your volume. Sometimes you can get a wrap that has fewer carbohydrates – grilled and leave the sauce off. Soup is usually not a good idea because of MSG.

The best places for good food are those that use organic local food that is grown and prepared by loving people who care for your good health. These restaurants are hard to find, but the good news is that they are sprouting up all over the USA. Look for them; it is worth the extra time and effort.

So, what is the take-home message from this entire Taco Bell law suit? Who cares, but it will still be fun to see how this plays out.

Some Toxic Chemicals in “Food” you Eat

inkiesI hate to use the word conspiracy but I just can’t come up with a better term to describe what is happening to cause the poor health epidemic in the USA.
The media tells us that we are lazy junk food guzzling idiots, but they will never report that their advertisers are causing this epidemic by what they put into so called “food” Here are examples of what is going on with the prepared food supply.
Coke-cola and has to be at the top of the list but they are probably not the worst. A can of Coke (12 fl ounces/355 ml) has 39 grams of carbohydrates (all from sugar, approximately 10 teaspoons), 50 mg of sodium, 0 grams fat, 0 grams potassium, and 140 calories. I got these figures from Wikipedia but they are wrong on one thing. Coke and soft drink manufactures rarely use sugar; they use High Fructose Corn Syrup almost exclusively, which is worse than sugar for causing obesity.
I do want you to observe that 50 mg of sodium that is in Coke. What does sodium mean? SALT! Why is salt put into soft drinks, to make you thirstier and make you drink more soft drinks? This is the conspiracy.
Why is there so much high fructose corn syrup? To cover up the taste of salt! What was New Coke (the marketing ploy that failed)? Increased salt and more HFCS! If coke had never announced the plot to change the formula and if they had changed the formula gradually, no one would have ever known what they had done.
I got the following from www.mercola.com and he got it from Organic Authority.
This concerns McDonalds and their McNuggets that you might think are chicken but only 50 percent of each McNugget is actually chicken.
I got this information from www.mercola.com and he got his information from Organic Authority.
Do you put dimethylpolysiloxane, an anti-foaming agent made of silicone, in your chicken dishes?
How about tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), a chemical preservative so deadly that just five grams can kill you?
These are just two of the ingredients in a McDonalds Chicken McNugget. Only 50 percent of a McNugget is actually chicken. The other 50 percent includes corn derivatives, sugars, leavening agents and completely synthetic ingredients.
Organic Authority helpfully transcribed the full ingredients list provided by McDonalds:
“White boneless chicken, water, food starch-modified, salt, seasoning (autolyzed yeast extract, salt, wheat starch, natural flavoring (botanical source), safflower oil, dextrose, citric acid, rosemary), sodium phosphates, seasoning (canola oil, mono- and diglycerides, extractives of rosemary).
Battered and breaded with: water, enriched flour (bleached wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), yellow corn flour, food starch-modified, salt, leavening (baking soda, sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate, calcium lactate), spices, wheat starch, whey, corn starch.
Prepared in vegetable oil (Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness). Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent.”
All of the above is bad but just the vegetable oils (Canola, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil) are terrible because these oils are all genetically engineered and they are all trans fatty acids. This is why all chicken prepared in grocery stores and fast food chicken outlets is unhealthy to eat under any circumstances.
How about desert? How about a Twinkie? Here is a report that I got from the internet. Actually I have read the book but this is a short summary of the book by the author.

The Twinkie: Ingredients Revealed
By: Kate Thorp (View Profile)
Five ingredients come from rocks.
This got my attention. However, it only got worse when I discovered that the ingredients come from phosphate mines in Idaho, gypsum mines in Oklahoma, and oil fields in China. Okay, so now I was wondering if I was watching a real news story—come to find out, I was.
The Twinkie, which was created during the Depression, contains thirty-nine ingredients. One of those ingredients is a preservative, sorbic acid. Sorbic acid is an ingredient I see on many packages, and I have never thought twice about it. But author Steve Ettlinger did. He found that sorbic acid is actually derived from natural gas.
If that isn’t shocking enough, he goes on to talk about other ingredients like cellulose gum, Polysorbate 60, and calcium sulfate. Apparently, these ingredients are also used in sheet rock, shampoo, and rocket fuel. No wonder Twinkies make kids run around like crazy and have even been used as a defense for murder!
Mr. Ettlinger also found that the vitamins, artificial colors, and flavorings in Twinkies come from petroleum.
I started to wonder how this tasty treat made from gas and rocks can be so light and airy. In comes Mr. Ettlinger again. Apparently, it’s limestone that makes Twinkies light. And that tasty cream center—it’s got to be milk, right? No. It’s made of shortening; there is absolutely no cream in the cream.
I have to say I was curious to know what Hostess, the makers of the Twinkie, thought about Mr. Ettlinger’s claims. Well, here’s the quote that ran in my newscast:
Deconstructing the Twinkie is like trying to deconstruct the universe. We think the millions of people … would agree that Twinkies just taste great.—David Leavitt, Vice President Snack Marketing at Hostess.
The news story was inspired by Steve Ettlinger’s new book, Twinkie Deconstructed. Ettlinger uses the Twinkie to demonstrate where our processed food ingredients come from. Since the Twinkie is the product leader—yes, it’s a product and apparently, barely a food—it served as the perfect tool to show consumers what goes into our food.
The above are three “foods” that unsuspecting people consume that cause poor health.
The manufactures of these “foods” do not want you to know what their chemicals are doing to cause you to suffer poor health. The above products cause colds and flu in all age groups because they compromise your immune system. The colds and flu problems are all on the “short run” but the more insidious problems are on the long run. The long run problems are heart disease, stroke, cancer, obesity, diabetes and infections from mycoplasmas that cause neuro-degenerative and degenerative diseases like ALS, MS, chronic fatigue syndrome, Crohn’s disease, fibromyalgia, and many other chronic diseases.
You might say “I don’t care cause you have to die of something” and that is your right to be stupid but you deserve to know what is causing people to be sick and die before their time. You need to know that drug corporations, doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, food manufactures, agriculture producers, chemical corporations, don’t want you to be healthy so they can get “fat” off your misfortune.
Everyone has the right to make a choice but your government and corporations conspire to keep you in the dark about “food” knowing that you will suffer yourself or through a family member of friend.
My job as a reporter and author is to inform the public about what is wrong in their food supply so that you can make an intelligent choice with the food you eat.
It is your right to do and eat as you wish (smoking, toxic food, etc.), but it should be my right to eat healthy, be informed, and not be taxed to pay for you heart attack, cancer, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, and chronic diseases that are preventable.
Instead of the Obama “sick care” program that is not right or fair, people should pay a tax on all processed “foods”, cigarettes, etc. with the money going into a special fund to provide for illness treatment from allopathic doctors.
Doctors should also be paid more to help you be healthy instead of being rewarded for getting you on drugs and not helping you be well.

“Steak” What you need to know

This is my latest book to read and I would suggest you read it but in the meantime let me give you a quick rundown of the first few chapters and what you need to be aware of when feeding yourself and the family.

The title is “Steak” by Mark Schatzker One Man’s Search for the World’s Tastiest Piece of Beef

I have learned a lot from the book and I am only on the second chapter. I almost wish I had not read this book because I am now evaluating beef like I have never done before. I ate at Outback Steak House tonight and after reading this book I am applying judgment criteria that I never used.

Eating beef at any restaurant is a letdown after eating our Lowline Angus (as opposed to regular Angus commodity beef raised in feed lots), grass-fed, non-chemical beef that Judy and I raise on our ranch here in Texas.

Tonight’s meal left a void on my taste buds. I ordered a rib eye steak without any of the restaurants seasonings, which usually include MSG and other flavorings. MSG is used to make average to poor food taste better by tricking our taste buds. The steak tonight was mushy, no taste, bland, and not beefy. Even the horseradish sauce did little to improve the taste.

Beef in the US and Canada is probably the most abused food that is sold in grocery stores anywhere in the world and we fall into the trap of using our special brands of seasonings or making our own seasonings. We burn the outside of the beef with a fire that is to hot and cover it on both sides with flavor enhancers. I challenge you to cook meat without seasonings at a lower temperature for a longer period time of cooking and then think about what you have prepared.

Unfortunately if you do this with store bought beef you are going to be disappointed for the following reasons. I have known many of the chemicals that are used on cows, chicken, and pork for years but I was unaware that there were a lot more chemicals than I had ever imagined.

Mark Schatzker has reported all the good, bad, and ugly secrets of the beef industry. I am going to fill you in on these chemicals so that you can begin to think about how you should improve your life and that of your family.

Mark interviewed Allen Williams PhD meat scientist retired. He retired because as a professor he did a study for a pharmaceutical corporation that wanted a new product for pregnancy detection tested with the idea that with university approval the FDA would approve this new product. After testing this product he discovered that it did not work and he was going to report as such in an upcoming conference.

He was told by the his boss, the head of the department, that since the corporation paid for the study he could not report his findings (we have found this to be true with land grant universities as they try to raise money to fund their graduate programs. They simply can’t be trusted). When Allen discovered the dishonesty of university studies he retired.

Mark asked Allen what was wrong with all the steak that he had eaten in Texas and Oklahoma on his trip to write the book.

The following is a summary of what is wrong with beef that you buy in a grocery store today.

Allen said that there was a ninety nine plus percentage that all the meat mark had eaten was raise in the conventional manner. It was grown on a ranch, implanted with a growth hormone – most likely Ralgrow, or Synovex implanted when it was 2 to 3 months old, taken rudely from its mother at seven to eight months (actually most of the ranchers that I know take the babies from their mother at 6 months of age) and sold in an auction barn. For the next few months it most likely was put on grass and more hormones would have been injected. At 750 tom 800 pounds and about 12 to 16 months of age it was taken to a feed lot to start eating flaked corn, plus it received two more hormone implants along with a beta-agonist – like Optaflexx which cause even more muscle mass.

Is it any wonder why 7 and 8 year old girls are developing their sex characteristics 5 to 7 years before they are supposed to develop them?

Corn is an unnatural food for cows (GMO corn is even worse) and it can kill cattle. It can cause the liver to abscess, excessive gas that inflates the rumen (one of the cows digestive stomachs) to such an extent that the pressure causes the lungs to collapse so that the cow suffocates, and it causes acidosis that creates the super E-coli and causes the cow to digest the endometrial lining of its gut.

Roughly 98 percent of cattle survive to go to the packing plant because antibiotics are mixed in with the feeds to keep the liver and guts from failing. On top of all this the cows are stressed from standing in mud or dust and their own poop. They see their buddies die and hauled off every day. They produce cortisol, the stress hormone. They are full of adrenalin and their muscles and guts are full of lactic acid. Is it any wonder that meat tastes bad?

On the other hand people have been eating this “stuff” so long that they don’t realize that it tastes so bad.

I have mentioned before that when eating jams and jellies you are eating hormones from cattle because the cartilage from the cows in processed to create gelatin for deserts. The implants are not removed when the processing starts. Again is it any wonder why young girls develop to early?

I feel you must know what agriculture and food manufactures are doing to you through our food supply to cause premature aging and death through poor unhealthy food.

I strongly suggest that you buy all food locally from people you can trust. My wife and I will never sell compromised beef to our customers and the people I know that sell produce will not compromise the lives of their customers.
